Strengthening with RamWall

Metronet Rail is driving forward an extensive embankment stabilisation program at They Bois Embankment and Epping. The project involves the use of piled reinforced concrete retaining walls while also utilising regraded slopes to strengthen the railway infrastructure. Due to the complex geometry of the site, engineers selected RamWall as the ideal solution for constructing durable and adaptable end-walls.

One of the main challenges also at They Bois Embankment was preventing additional earth pressures from impacting an already weakened, ground-anchored bridge. The re-profiling process could have caused extra load stress, increasing the risk of structural damage. To counter this, engineers designed an independent RamWall end-wall to support the regraded slope while resting securely above a longitudinal piled reinforced concrete wall.

A Long-Lasting Embankment Stabilisation Solution for They Bois Embankment

RamWall provides a fully reinforced stabilisation system tailored to fit the unique site geometry for any use. Furthermore, it allows site personnel to construct reliable end-walls with minimal training and supervision, making installation efficient and cost-effective. In total, three RamWall structures are being installed across the project to reinforce the embankment while also ensuring long-term stability.

To meet the project’s strict 120-year design life, engineers chose stainless steel components throughout the installation. This guarantees exceptional durability, and also resilience against environmental factors, and a strong, lasting solution for railway embankment stabilisation. Moreover, by integrating RamWall, Metronet Rail is enhancing the strength and reliability of They Bois Embankment, ensuring safe and secure railway operations for decades to come.
